Jeep Will install Electric Vehicles charging stations along off-road trailheads in the USA. As part of a partnership with Electrify America, the company will provide chargers that are either solar-powered or connected to a power grid.
The first station of this kind will be opened this spring, in Moab, Utah; the Rubicon Trail in Pollock Pines, California; and Big Bear, California.
The brand will spend the next year installing Level 2 chargers at trailheads across the country and open stations for business at additional locations near “Badge of Honor” trails over the next year.
This development comes just after the Company’s recent launch of the Wrangler 4xe, a plug-in hybrid version of its long-running, rugged SUV.
The Electrify America chargers on off-road trails will be able to fully charge a Jeep Wrangler 4xe’s battery pack in roughly two hours.
The owners of the 4xe have been given a big priority in this project. Even though the stations will be available to the general public, Wrangler 4xe owners will be able to charge for free (at least at first) via an Electrify America mobile phone app.
Apart from Jeep, Rivian, an Amazon-backed electric vehicle startup, has said that it plans to install 10,000 fast Electric Vehicle chargers across the USA and Canada by 2023.
