The United States of America continues to register high cases of Coronavirus disease with an average of 60,000 being confirmed daily.
The country has focused its fight against the virus on providing vaccination for Citizens in order to stop the spread of the disease.
Now, the focus has been shifted towards introducing a Covid-19 vaccine passport in New York City which will be on an App named “Excelsior Pass.”
Governor Andrew Cuomo has said that the app will enable New Yorkers to prove their vaccination status, or recent history of a negative COVID-19 test, in order to gain entry to events and businesses.
“Similar to a mobile airline boarding pass, individuals will be able to either print out their pass or store it on their smartphones using the Excelsior Pass Wallet app,” Said the New York Governor.
“Each Pass will have a secure QR code, which participating businesses and venues can scan using a companion app to verify proof of COVID-19 negative test results or proof of vaccination,”
The app that will be launched on Friday will ensure that Citizens get easy access to social gatherings such as workshops and weddings that require one to prove their COVID-19 Status.
This comes after President Joe Biden issued an Executive order in January directing agencies to assess the feasibility of linking coronavirus vaccinations to vaccine cards and producing a digital version
