Companies are now shifting to manufacture electric cars, which are environmentally friendly since they emit less greenhouse gases and pollutants over their life as compared to petrol and diesel cars.
However, the new trend is not an innovation of the 21st Century as the first electric car dates back to a century ago.
Jay Leno owned three hybrid vehicles in the 20th century, with the first one having been built in 1909.
Sadly, all the three electric cars were much ahead of their time despite being rolling manifestations of brilliant ideas, hence they failed.
The Baker Electric Car that was commonly marketed to women needed no cracking, had no gasoline smell, making it essentially maintenance-free.
Jay Leno describes his Electric Car as a silent one, just like the modern ones. He says that it is a simple electric car and dealing with its engine doesn’t require any professionalism, only that its replacements aren’t readily available.
The electric car enthusiast says that there is not much difference between modern electric cars and his century-old Baker as it is also able to go for roughly 100 miles on a single charge.
“My Baker still has some original alkaline batteries. These have lead plates and use acid; we wash them out and refill them regularly and I’ll use them indefinitely,” says Leno.
