Apple will introduce the iPhone 17 on September 9 during its “Awe Dropping” event, but demand for the device is already strong. According to a survey by SellCell of more than 2,000 U.S. users, 68 percent of current iPhone owners plan to purchase the iPhone 17 at launch.
Last year, 62 percent expressed the same intent for the iPhone 16, signaling growing enthusiasm for Apple’s latest update.
Which model are buyers eyeing most?
- 38 percent favor the iPhone 17 Pro or Pro Max.
- 16.7 percent plan to purchase the standard iPhone 17.
- 13.5 percent are waiting for the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air.
What could hold them back?
Price remains the primary obstacle. The average iPhone now costs more than $900, and 68 percent of respondents identified price as their main concern. Still, 34 percent said they would buy the iPhone 17 even if prices rise further.
What features do users want most?
- 53.2 percent expect longer battery life.
- About one-third are looking forward to improvements in display, design, and new features.
- Only 7 percent see value in AI-powered tools.
Loyalty and skepticism
Apple’s customer base remains loyal, with 72.9 percent reporting greater satisfaction with their iPhones than in the past. However, 27.1 percent believe Apple has “lost its edge” and is lagging behind rivals, particularly in generative AI and foldable device development.
The survey also revealed that 20.1 percent of users would consider switching to Samsung if Apple fails to release a foldable iPhone by 2026. Still, around 70 percent said they would stay with Apple regardless.
All eyes are now on September 9 to see whether Apple can meet the high expectations set for its newest flagship.
