The automation of Police Services has been launched today.

The project, which is conducted by the National Police Service, will see the start of the Utumumishi Project that constitutes technological transformation parts that will lead to full automation of the police force and associated services.

Nairobi County Revenue System (NRS) goes live

One of the motivations of the project is the disappearance of police records at police posts and stations. This issue was echoed by the Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, who also mentioned that upon the completion of the Utumishi Project, loss of records will be unheard of.

In addition, the CS says that the project will see then end of bribe solicitation by a section of the police force from citizens.

“There’s an animal in this country called ‘the file’. That animal has been a cause of misery everywhere. It is a basis on which people seek rent…any matter cannot move without the file. We have begun the final funeral to that a thing,” Dr. Matiang’i said.

The launch was made official by the CS at BuruBuru Police Station.

The CS added that police officers will have up to 18 months to learn how to use the new system.

The roll-out of the system will be done in faces in the coming days.

Among its offerings include digitized OB, Digital HR Information system that was first launched in January 2019, a digital duty roster and patrol system; and report generator for inferring crime trends and dynamics for further action.

Digital OBs were introduced first at Kasarani Police Station in December 2019. Other police stations within Nairobi have since been equipped with the technology.

Furthermore, some 210 desktop computers have been installed in a number of stations and posts within the city. The project has also seen the distribution of more than 10,000 iPads to officers working within the capital.

The Utumishi Project will work in sync with the Uadilifu Case Management System that was launched recently by the ODPP. Uadilifu System is an e-filing system by the Judiciary that allows easy retrieval of evidence to support prompt disposal of cases.

As of September, the Interior Ministry will also install a digital HR System for all National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs). – Story by Techweez
