Xiaomi has thrown the gates wide open and introduced not only one but two of its latest flagships; the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max with a new daring design. The Magic Back Screen is the show-stealer, a secondary display that offers a sneak peek of the otherwise huge rear camera module without detaching it physically.
The extra screen is not just for show; it has several practical functions. The teaser put up by Xiaomi is a glance at the watch faces and camera viewfinder mode that visually wraps around two of the camera lenses for an aesthetic and futuristic appearance. The style of the phone looks as if it was influenced by the iPhone 17 Pro, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and even the Motorola Razr.
The Xiaomi 17 series is also distinguished by its positioning. The Chinese company skipped the “16” generation after which it released the 17-series to compete head-on with Apple’s iPhone 17 range. But there is a smart catch: Xiaomi 17 Pro is the successor of the standard Xiaomi 15, while Pro Max has taken over the demoted 15 Pro. On the other hand, the normal Xiaomi 17 does not have the Magic Back Screen, with the company executive Lu Weibing referring to it as a “standard flagship without a price increase.”
In September, all three models — Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max — will be unveiled. They will be equipped with the most recent Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, triple Leica-powered cameras, bigger batteries, and thinner bezels. But the luxurious Xiaomi 17 Ultra, on the other hand, will not come until 2026.
