Huawei has officially unveiled the MatePad Mini, its first compact tablet, set to launch on September 4 alongside the Mate XTs Ultimate Design edition. Unlike most small-screen tablets marketed for gaming, Huawei is positioning the device as a “small tablet, big phone,” blurring the traditional boundaries between smartphones and tablets.
The MatePad Mini mirrors Huawei’s smartphone design language, featuring a circular dual-camera module with an LED flash on the back, a curved frame, and a hole-punch front camera positioned on the side. It sports an 8.8-inch 16:9 display with a 120Hz refresh rate, while maintaining a slim 5mm profile and weighing just 260 grams, making it both sleek and portable.
According to leaks, the tablet will run on the Kirin 9020 processor with 5G support and an optional plug-in card version. Power efficiency could be another standout feature, as the device is rumored to house a 6,500mAh battery supported by 66W fast charging.
Huawei has not yet disclosed full performance specifications or details about peripheral compatibility. However, with its hybrid identity and compact form factor, the MatePad Mini is set to carve out a distinctive niche in the smart device market.
