Google has officially released its Password Manager as a dedicated app on the Play Store, making it easier for users to access and manage their login details. Until now, the tool was hidden within Chrome or Android system settings. With the new app, users can simply tap an icon to open it. The design follows Google’s familiar minimalist style, prioritizing simplicity and ease of use.
Despite the change in format, the app introduces no new features. It functions as a shortcut to the same interface that allows users to save, edit, and organize passwords. The difference lies in visibility and convenience.
By listing the app on the Play Store, Google places itself alongside well-known competitors such as Bitwarden, Proton Pass, and Enpass. Previously, its built-in service went unnoticed in direct searches. Now, it appears as a clear option for users exploring password management tools.
The app also streamlines access to important security settings. From within the app, users can enable on-device encryption (Settings > Set up on-device encryption), ensuring that saved passwords remain protected even from Google itself.
For most Android users, day-to-day operations will remain unchanged. The service continues to function as before, only now presented with a dedicated icon that makes it more accessible.
The new Password Manager app is already available for download on the Play Store. While it improves usability, it does not mark a dramatic shift. Convenient, yes. Revolutionary, no.
