Apple Prepares iPad Pro Redesign with Portrait Selfie Camera, Next-Gen OLED Displays, and the New M5 Chip
Apple is gearing up to refresh its iPad Pro lineup in late 2025, introducing subtle but meaningful upgrades. According to a leak from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, this isn’t a complete overhaul, but rather a thoughtful evolution. Among the key changes is a redesigned front-facing camera tailored for portrait orientation making FaceTime and video calls more convenient whether the device is held vertically or horizontally. This is especially useful for users who treat their iPad like an oversized iPhone.
The new portrait-oriented camera is expected to complement, not replace, the existing landscape camera. Users will likely be able to switch orientations depending on their needs. However, it’s still unclear whether Face ID will perform equally well in both positions.
Both the 11-inch and 13-inch models will be affected by the redesign. Already in mass production, they’ll feature advanced tandem OLED panels that allow for slimmer bezels giving the devices a sleeker, more modern appearance. Rumors suggest the front camera will be discreetly integrated, avoiding unsightly notches or “chins.”
Under the hood, the iPad Pro will be powered by the Apple M5 chip, built on TSMC’s N3P process essentially the third generation of the 3nm architecture. However, the M5 isn’t expected to deliver a major leap in performance. Instead, it focuses on enhanced stability, improved energy efficiency, and future compatibility with iPadOS 19 and 20. Think of it more as a steady annual upgrade than a game-changing leap.
Apple is expected to unveil the revamped iPad Pro alongside the iPhone 17 lineup, new Apple Watch models (including Ultra and SE), and what appears to be a second push to popularize the Vision Pro headset. Fall 2025 is shaping up to be another exciting season for Apple fans.
