Yesterday a set of electric vans were launched by Meta Electric, a business unit of Meta Group Africa. The vans are manufactured by Build Your Dreams(BYD), a Chinese manufacturer.
The T3 Electric Vans offer up to a 300KM range at full capacity. The van comes with an AC charger that allows up to 8hrs charging time and an optional DC which allows up to 1.5hrs charging time.
Meta Electric says it is bringing in the vans in order to promote greener transportation and pave way for investment in the electric vehicle industry. Meta Group Africa wants to become a leading supplier of electric commercial vehicles. They also plan to sell and lease units to the East African market.
“Owning and driving the T3 electric van is indeed a bold statement for any company especially in Kenya. EVs help saves on major costs compared to any internal combustion engine vehicle. They greatly reduce operating expenses as they beat the diesel competition hands down costing less than half for fuel, service, maintenance, and repairs at very reasonable mileage. In addition, EVs are zero-emission thus promoting cleaner air and aiding in the fight against pollution and climate change,” said Brian Chege, General Manager for Meta Electric.
Meta Electric added that NEO KENYA MPYA, a transport company and one of the biggest public bus operators, will be testing the Electric Vans for different solutions.
