Despite recent rumors, Samsung did not unveil its much-anticipated tri-fold smartphone during the July Galaxy Unpacked event. However, the company has officially confirmed that the device is real and is scheduled to launch before the end of 2025. This announcement came directly from TM Roh, the head of Samsung Electronics’ mobile division.
“We are currently focused on perfecting the product and optimizing the user experience. The name hasn’t been finalized yet, but we expect to decide on it soon,” Roh stated.
Galaxy Z TriFold or Possibly G Fold?
According to trusted insider Max Jambor, the upcoming device may be named the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, aligning with Samsung’s current Z-series branding. Although an earlier name, Galaxy G Fold, was previously considered, it appears the company aims to maintain the strong brand recognition of the Z lineup.
Clues about the new foldable format have already surfaced in the firmware of One UI 8 which debuted with Samsung’s latest foldables but was initially tested on the Galaxy S25. References to the tri-fold design were found alongside earlier codenames like Flex G and Flex S, which correspond to concept displays Samsung showcased at CES 2022. These concepts explored two folding mechanisms, one shaped like the letter “G” and the other like an “S.”
