Samsung is fine-tuning its upcoming Galaxy S26 series, and this time, the familiar “Plus” variant is unlikely to make a return. Instead, the company is expected to introduce a new “Edge” model, joining the lineup in the first quarter of 2026.
An exclusive report from Digital Chat Station (DCS) has revealed fresh details about the series. The mid-tier version—rumored to be rebranded as the Galaxy S26 Pro in China—has been registered under the model number SM-S9420. It is said to feature a 6.27-inch display, a rated battery capacity of 4,175 mAh, and a typical capacity of around 4,300 mAh.
For perspective, last year’s Galaxy S25 carried a rated capacity of 3,885 mAh and a typical 4,000 mAh. This gives the S26 Pro roughly a 7.5% boost in rated battery size.
However, the report also pointed out that competitors using the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip and a similar 6.3-inch display have managed to fit batteries as large as 7,000 mAh. Larger-screen versions even reach 7,360 mAh rated and 7,500 mAh typical. This contrast has sparked debate, with some observers noting that Samsung’s battery capacities remain on the conservative side.
One commenter argued, “For Samsung, the domestic market isn’t a priority. Even without it, they maintain global dominance.” DCS responded, “Overseas buyers tend to be less concerned about battery size. Also, differing safety and certification standards mean that domestic phones must reduce battery capacity for international markets—but even after that reduction, they often still exceed Samsung’s figures.”
Earlier leaks suggest that Samsung plans to overhaul its naming scheme for the S26 lineup: the standard model may be replaced by the “Pro,” the “Plus” by the “Edge,” and the “Ultra” will remain unchanged. This would leave three main models—Galaxy S26 Pro, Galaxy S26 Edge, and Galaxy S26 Ultra. The “medium cup” label mentioned in several reports likely refers to the Galaxy S26 Pro.
