OpenAI has introduced a powerful new tool the ChatGPT Agent, a personal digital assistant built on the company’s advanced neural network technology. Acting like a virtual secretary, this AI-powered agent can carry out various tasks on behalf of users by leveraging its own “virtual computer.”
Project leads Yash Kumar and Aiza Fulford explained that the ChatGPT Agent is powered by a custom AI model developed specifically for this tool. Thanks to this cutting-edge technology, the agent can handle a wide range of everyday tasks. For instance, it can check your calendar to remind you of upcoming appointments, plan shopping lists, and even generate presentation slides based on competitor analysis.
Before executing any irreversible actions such as sending an email or confirming a reservation the ChatGPT Agent will always seek the user’s approval. OpenAI has also implemented multiple safety measures in the neural network’s design to prevent harmful or unsafe behavior.
Currently, the AI agent has restrictions on handling financial transactions. Additionally, when interacting with websites that require heightened security, it activates a special Watch Mode. In this mode, users must remain on the same browser tab; if they navigate away, the agent immediately halts its operation.
The rollout of the ChatGPT Agent has already begun for users on Pro, Plus, and Team plans. OpenAI also announced that Enterprise and Education subscribers will gain access by the end of this summer.
