Once again, it seems that new phones from Nothing are coming that way. Apart from its flagship Phone (3) release, the company now seems like it is willing to keep the flow going by producing the next generation of the more affordable range of its phones. The first indications are now that the Nothing Phone (4a) is being developed.
Early Clues: IMEI Database Leak
A yet to be known device with model number A069P has been spotted in the IMEI database. No doubt the official name is not known yet, however, leaked videos show that the Nothing Phone (3a) and (3a) Pro used codes A059 and A059P for their internal software, respectively. So, the new entry is more likely to be the next Nothing Phone (4a) Pro following that pattern.
By this, it is also understood that the manufacturer of the Nothing Phone is working on the next generation of the “a” series and thus we can expect a standard Nothing Phone (4a) model soon.
Design and Build Philosophy: Plastic Over Metal
Nothing’s signature transparent design–a core part of its identity–will probably not be changed. Nevertheless, it seems likely that the firm will opt for a plastic frame rather than metal for its “a” line of products, a decision that will receive a mixed reaction from customers. While some of them might feel the lower quality of the phone, others might find the lighter weight and reduced price more attractive.
One of the main points that Nothing has been known for in the past and will most probably continue in the future is the Glyph LED interface. Without the regular flashing of the trademark lights, a Nothing product would be difficult to picture.
Expected Upgrades
- Battery: Higher battery size and faster charging rate will be expected.
- Processor: The new chipset will probably offer a visible higher performance.
- Display and Cameras: The display and camera of the 3a series were already good, so only some minor adjustments are expected.
In a nutshell, increment changes are the main focus of Nothing’s next move rather than going for radical changes, thus maintaining the brand’s recognized aesthetic while improving the key features.
The Takeaway
The Nothing Phone (4a) that is going to be launched will seemingly be the Next step of the brand’s samurai-like approach to conquering the market. It is not going to be a top-end device, for sure, but at the same time, it will not be an “empty” device either. By virtue of its see-through frame, classic LEDs, and carefully considered improvements, the 4a is gradually transforming itself into a worthy rival of the mid-range segment.
The date of unveiling is still a secret, however, its sighting in the IMEI database signals that the release will likely happen soon.
