Google has unveiled a proprietary magnetic accessory system called Pixelsnap, designed for its newly announced Pixel 10 smartphone line. The system is widely viewed as the company’s direct response to Apple’s MagSafe technology.
Built on the Qi2 wireless-charging standard, Pixelsnap supports the Magnetic Power Profile (MPP), which enables faster and more secure charging through magnetic alignment. A ring of integrated magnets on the back of each Pixel 10 device allows users to snap on a range of compatible accessories, including chargers, external batteries, and protective cases.
Although Pixelsnap currently offers only basic functionality, Google has hinted at potential software enhancements in future updates. For now, the only interactive feature is a photo slideshow that automatically launches when a Pixel 10 device is placed in landscape mode on a Pixelsnap stand.
Early testing by 9to5Google suggests that the magnetic grip is highly reliable and comparable in strength and feel to Apple’s MagSafe system.
The first wave of Pixelsnap accessories includes:
- A magnetic charging puck priced at $39.99, capable of delivering up to 25 W of power to the Pixel 10 Pro.
- A stand priced at $69.99, designed to hold the charging puck and support hands-free use. This stand also accommodates the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, thanks to its stable base.
In many respects, the new system serves as a successor to the Pixel Stand, which last received an update in 2021.
Google has also introduced a selection of Pixelsnap-compatible cases, starting at $49.99 for standard Pixel 10 models. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold case is listed at $69.99.
One accessory drawing particular attention is the Pixelsnap Ring Stand, priced at $29.99. Styled after the kickstand case for the Pixel Tablet, it features a prominent “G” logo and comes in colors that match the handset. The ring stand allows users to position their phone vertically or horizontally, making it ideal for watching videos or video calling.
With Pixelsnap, Google appears intent on building a cohesive ecosystem of magnetic accessories to complement its flagship devices, offering both convenience and consistency across the Pixel product line.
